Métis of Maine Pet Policy

We realize that pets are an important part of many camping and visiting families, and we want everyone to enjoy our events. Please observe the following pet rules:
Service animals are always welcome
The Métis of Maine is pleased to allow you the privilege of bringing your pet (limited to cats and dogs only) to all events that are not restricted by the Chief. (There are certain areas or events that no pets may be allowed; TBA). (There are some events that other species may be allowed if pre-approved).
Little Dove Woods
Requirements for Pets and Pet Owners (Members only) the owners of all pets are responsible for control of their pets, at all times and proper disposal of all animal waste. All dogs must be wearing a collar with owners name. All cats must be readily identifiable (e.g. tags, tattoos or an ear notch). All pets must be under control at all times and on a leash of not more than four feet [4'] in length.
Animal may be penned or staked on a longer lead within campsite
If under full control a pet may be allowed off leash in owners campsite only, or on another campsite with permissions of the person in that camp site.
The release of any pet within Little Dove Woods area is strictly prohibited, if animal is not under full control. (e.g. Strict voice command.)
Visitors staying overnight
Requirements for Pets and Pet Owners-(visitors camping overnight) avoid more than 2 pets per campsite. The owners of all pets are responsible for control of their pets at all times and proper disposal of all animal waste. All dogs must be wearing a collar with owners name. Yellow Feather Culture Center
Pets are prohibited from inside the Cultural center anytime there is a meeting or food is being prepared.
Powwow and Village Grounds
Only well adjusted and controlled Dogs on four foot leashes are allowed on the Powwow or Village grounds.
Owners of dogs entering the area will have the means to immediately clean up after their dog. The owners of all pets are responsible for control of their pets at all times and proper disposal of all animal waste.
General Rules
Dogs will not be left unattended inside parked cars when ever weather does not permit.
Dogs are part of our culture, however it is considered disrespectful to dress them in any type of regalia
Breeds of dogs that are so large as to become disruptive of events or certain breeds that may be scaring people may be asked to leave; lets respect each other.
Avoid bringing dogs into a vendors booths. (e.g. If there is not adequate room or the vendor would rather not have them in there).
Owners shall make every attempt to keep their pets quiet at all times, especially between 10pm and 7am.
Washing of pets is prohibited in any natural water body or by use of supplied water from culture center.
The Chief or his/her representative may set more or less restrictive requirement at any given event as they feel necessary. At the event his / her word is final.
The Chief or his/her authorized representative may suspend any part of this policy; do to certain circumstances that may be unplanned.
All escapes, bites to humans/other animals, and contact with wildlife must be reported to appropriate security or other staff and then may be reported to local authority as necessary.
The release of any pet within Powwow or village area is strictly prohibited.
The Métis of Maine functions are private yet open to the public. Violation of any of the above requirements or any provision of the Métis of Maine Pet Rules and Regulations may result in eviction from the property of the Métis of Maine.
Other Events
The Chief or their representative may authorize the showing of other types of birds or animal as the result of a preplanned organized event of the Métis.
